Carlos Chafin

Virginia native Carlos Chafin began his career as a session musician while studying at Virginia Commonwealth University. Carlos’ involvement in various East Coast recording studios resulted in sessions with Parliament-Funkadelics, Bootsey Collins, Clarence Clemons (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Pat Benatar and the Rolling Stones. In 1990, Carlos and songwriter-performer Robbin Thompson formed In Your Ear, a music production company and studio that quickly rose to national prominence. Early composition work at In Your Ear lead to a variety of films and commercial assignments including the theme music for Virginia Is For Lovers, North Carolina Tourism, Florida Tourism, McDonald’s, Coke – Happieness, Sesame Workshops Television and many others. From scoring for Holiday Inn and Nationwide Insurance Super Bowl Commercials to hosting the sessions for the Grammy award winning R&B album of the year in 2012 for artist Chris Brown, Carlos’ has moved well beyond his roots as a session keyboardist. A recent accomplishment is the production of the In Your Ear Radio show on public stations through Virginia featuring artists from Virginia and beyond. The show which began in 2012, focuses on acoustic folk, country and jazz artists and has spawned several albums for iconic Virginians including John Cephas, Robbin Thompson and the Crooked Road’s own Wayne Henderson. Carlos’ commitment to the development of education and support of regional music are his current focus, although he is still heavily involved in all types of media production.
