1. Apply to VCU
All applicants must apply online using the University Graduate Application and are required to submit a $70 application fee. Applicants applying to more than one program must submit a separate application and application fee for each program.
School of the Arts applicants are asked to submit their personal statement/artist statement through both the University Graduate Application and through the School of the Arts supplemental material website.
Three letters of reference are required for each program and should be submitted online by your recommenders. In your University Graduate Application you will enter the recommender names and email addresses to send a message requesting the reference. Letters of recommendation from professional associates such as instructors, supervisors, or colleagues should address the applicant’s ability to succeed in a graduate program.

International Applicants should apply one month before the following deadlines to ensure that application materials are received by the deadline.
2. Submit Transcripts
You must submit one official copy of all final transcripts from each institution you have attended to the below address. Each final transcript should indicate the degree conferred from the institution and should be sent to VCU in envelopes sealed by the institution issuing the documents. Transcripts stamped with “Issued to Student” are accepted if the sealed envelope has not been opened. Please note that a transcript from every institution you have attended is required.

You may upload unofficial transcripts to your online application; however, official transcripts will be required if you are admitted to the university.
Prospective students who have studied outside of the U.S. must provide an official WES or ECE external credential evaluation as a required part of the admissions process. This report should be sealed and unopened, and sent directly to the Office of Admissions. All official transcripts and relevant credentials (e.g., diplomas and marksheets) will be required if admitted. All external credential evaluations should be no older than two years as of the official date received by the Office of Admissions. Once credentials and/or credential evaluations are sent to VCU, they will not be returned to the prospective student or sent to a third party.
3. Review the Required Materials and Interview Process

Please submit your artist statement in the personal statement section on the University Graduate Application and in your School of the Arts supplemental material account.
Curriculum Vitae / Resume
Please submit your CV/Resume on the University Graduate Application. If applicant has a website, please include a link in your CV / Resume.
This requirement is usually a research paper (preferably in Theatre) from previous undergraduate or MA coursework.
Required for Performance Pedagogy students.
Please allow up to 4 business days to receive the link to submit your supplemental materials to VCUarts.
