Undergraduate BA/BFA

All entering undergraduate students are initially classified as Theatre Foundation majors with an area of emphasis in either Performance, Scenic Design/Tech, Costume Design/Tech, Lighting Design/Tech or Stage Management.

Olisa and Josh honeysuckle 2The first two years of curriculum are the same for both BA/BFA degrees. After successfully completing the first two years of core theatre courses in their area of interest, students then choose the BA degree program or audition/interview for the BFA degree program.

MFA Theatre Pedagogy

The MFA in Theatre Pedagogy Program is individually tailored to prepare the student to enter the field of teaching at the university or college level. The program boasts over 125 alumni that currently hold faculty positions at universities and colleges or key positions in education departments of major LORT theatres. The program allows the student to work with a faculty mentor in planning a two to three year curriculum integrating the practical application of teaching with that of well-rounded scholarly/academic training.

The Theatre VCU Design/Tech MFA integrates extensive theoretical and practical training. Graduate design courses are structured to address the specific needs of developing the individual student’s skills and talents. This professional design training is grounded in traditional academic studies in theatre history, theory and criticism, and literature.
