The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with a concentration in performance includes classes in acting, movement, improvisation, stage combat, voice/speech and dialects, and acting for the camera in addition to other theatre related courses.
Classes in musical theatre performance can be substituted for some upper level classes for students desiring more training in musical theatre.
Performance students are given many opportunities to act in our mainstage productions and to build their skills and resume before graduation. Our department also has a working relationship with Virginia Repertory Theatre—VCU students are given many opportunities to be considered for paid positions.
In the performance concentration, the fourth year focuses on helping students launch successful careers after graduation through showcase presentations in front of prominent casting directors and agents, visits from leading professional theatre internship programs, and classes in audition techniques and professional preparation.
Recent graduates have landed positions with the Public Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse, the Santa Fe Opera, and the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.
